Cooper Must Die! This is the first part of a larger work-in-progress which I’ll be working on throughout the ChamberLab concert series. It’s the story of a man who has troubles. We recorded this for “Locals Only” on KXCI 91.3 in Tucson, Arizona, hosted by Matt Milner!

This recording was engineered by Duncan Hudson and Carl Johnson, and features Christabelle Merrill on violin, Daniel Hursey and Cassandra Bendickson on bassoon, Jessica Campbell on contrabassoon, Daniel Mendoza on double bass, and Benjamin Degain on vibraphone. I’m playing the piano.

I’ve been digging into Satie’s piano music trying to figure out how it works, especially the Gymnopedies and Gnossiennes. I took one apart and reassembled it, and now I wonder where all these extra screws came from, and the piece is making this weird clunking sound and shuddering around the turns. It’s a fun exercise, though! I’ll keep working on it.

This is the sound of the machine pictured below. It is an awesome sound. It is pounding through the pavement. The earth shakes, even now where I’m sitting inside typing this. I want one of these things. I want to correct people with it.
